AMAICA GROUP FOUNDATION TREE PLANTING AT SHEYWE HIGHSCHOOL -

To mark World Environment Day 2026 with the theme “A Global Call for Climate Action,” Amaica Group Foundation, together with various partners, created a fruit orchard and planted over 150 tree seedlings at Sheywe High School in Kakamega County.
The gathering brought together diverse stakeholders, including Amaica Media/Radio, the Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI) Kakamega, the Kenya Forest Service (KFS) Kakamega, representatives from the Kakamega County Office of the County Commissioner, the Sub-County Director of Education for Kakamega Central, along with teachers and students from Sheywe Senior School.
Throughout the event, KEFRI experts educated attendees on effective tree seedling management and emphasized the importance of choosing suitable tree species for the environment.
The initiative’s preparations included site evaluations and land readiness activities conducted by KFS, Amaica Group, educators, and students, showcasing a true community effort.
The Amaica Group Foundation expressed gratitude to all partners for their contributions through donations, technical knowledge, and volunteer efforts, which played a crucial role in the initiative’s achievement.
The organization also called on individuals, institutions, and other stakeholders to persist in supporting the government’s aim of planting 15 billion trees by 2032, as part of the strategy to address climate change and safeguard the environment.
At the gathering, Caleb Opiyo (KEFRI) motivated everyone to participate in environmental protection actively, asserting, “It is a crucial call for us to dedicate time to caring for our environment.”
Mr. Imbosa Leonard, the Principal of Sheywe Senior School, expressed his appreciation to Amaica Media and KEFRI for selecting the school for the tree planting initiative. He highlighted the significance of trees for both life and sustainable development.
“I am grateful to Amaica Media and KEFRI for selecting our school for the tree planting. Trees are essential for life. By planting trees, we ensure the continuation of life, which contributes to sustainable development,” he stated.
