Wednesday 9th September 2026, Amaica Group Foundation stepped in to assist a pregnant mother, Sharon Nasike a resident of Matopeni village in Lurambi‎ subcounty Kakamega County who found herself facing a major challenge. She had no money to pay for the services she needed, while her health insurance through SHA was not working as it was inactive enabling her to deliver safely at Oasis Hospital Kakamega.
This was after a call by Oasis Multi Specialty Hospital-Kakamega, and since there is an ongoing partnership between the hospital and Amaica Group Foundation.
‎But at a time when she needed help, Amaica Group Foundation stepped in, helping Sharon resolve her SHA issue and opening the way for her to access the healthcare services she urgently needed at Oasis Hospital Kakamega. Amaica Group Foundation also donated food and child nursing items to Sharon Nasike
‎Andrew Barasa a nurse of Oasis Hospital Kakamega recalls how Sharon arrived at the hospital and the steps that were taken to ensure she received the care she needed.‎
‎He emphasizes the importance of expectant mothers to begin antenatal care as soon as they are pregnant, as it helps monitor the health of both mother and baby, identify potential complications early, and ensure that the mother is adequately prepared for delivery. For Sharon, the support did not end in the delivery room.
‎The partnership between Oasis Hospital Kakamega and Amaica Group Foundation continues to play an important role in her journey. ‎Clinton Mukanda of Oasis Hospital Kakamega says partnership like this has an important role to play in strengthening communities and helping people understand that even private hospitals can be part of the solution when individuals face difficult circumstances.
The Amaica Group Foundation Representative Brilliant Isokoni emphasized on the need of ensuring every mother access quality affordable healthcare. She highlighted that there is need for educating young mothers and community at large to register Social Health Authority (SHA) and accessing health facility early.
Additionally, Victor Ndiwa, Programs Officer at Amaica Group Foundation, added that as part of the Foundation’s Health pillar, supporting Sharon demonstrates that Amaica Group Foundation plays a key role in educating the community on SHA registration and engaging with the community to link vulnerable individuals to healthcare facilities such as Oasis Multi-Specialty Hospital to access the healthcare services they need.
This case portrays the need in working together to serve the community through civic education, SHA registration, and linking vulnerable community members, especially young and expectant mothers, allowing them to access the healthcare services as required.
