As a way of celebrating Men’s mental awareness month, Amaica Group Foundation conducted a community outreach at Kakamega Rehabilitation School promoting mental health awareness among men, developing skills on how to generate income, and empowering the community on self-reliance.
Our outreach focused on raising awareness of men’s mental health and encouraging them to embrace open conversations on matters challenging men in the community and coming up as a role model to champion on problem solving. This initiative aligns with our foundation’s commitment to improve the community’s well-being through health education and empowerment programs.
As Amaica Foundation Group we empowered the community through training on kitchen garden which is a modern way of farming and environmental conservation. These skills will help the men back to keep themselves busy while at home and reduce stress through garden engagement and supporting the main organizers with flour and man power in making of the chapatti Fest which is a celebration to relive anxiety among men.
Beyond the awareness sessions, participants were equipped with practical livelihood skills through demonstrations on soap making. The activity was designed to promote self-reliance and help people to earn an extra living through making soap at home for commercial sustainability.
Other partners including, The Kenya Red Cross team supported the outreach with health education and community engagement, highlighting the importance of partnerships in addressing mental health and promoting wellness. They also embraced the chapati fest by preparing chapatis and other food stuffs for the event participants.
Men need to engage in entertainment as a way of relieving stress. The Extreme Entertainment Group embraced laughter and smile to the participants through drama as a way of creating mental awareness among men and the effect of drug abuse among young boys who are traumatized through the use of drugs.
Amaica Group Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to creating lasting impact to the community by combining mental health advocacy with practical community empowerment which was termed as a way of releasing stress and avoiding idleness to build healthier and more resilient communities.
